Journalism and Media Prize
Journalism and Media Prize
The German Association for the Study of English awards the Journalism and Media Prize every three years to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the dissemination of English-language cultures.
In 2023, the award went to FAZ correspondent Gina Thomas. The journalist, born in Düsseldorf and living in London, has a talent for interculturally contextualizing British ‘insider’ knowledge in her feuilleton contributions. The jury particularly praised Gina Thomas’ keen sense of the intersections of art, culture, and media (especially the BBC) with economic and political discourses. Her confident engagement with all aspects of art and culture is further distinguished by a linguistic finesse that never lacks clarity. Her contributions are always based on meticulous research, demonstrate sharp observational skills, and offer balanced criticism. Not least, the high relevance of her work, such as the focus on gender-related topics or the British royal family, convinced the jury of the relevance to the areas of interest in English literary and cultural studies.
The award ceremony took place at the Anglistentag on September 25, 2023, in Siegen.
The next Journalism and Media Prize will be awarded in 2026.
